WBB preview: Silicon Valley nemeses go head-to-head

By Autumn Blue — Reporter

San Jose State women’s basketball (1-2, 0-0 MW) will be hosting the Santa Clara University Broncos (2-0, 0-0 MW) Wednesday night.

The Spartans are coming back from a crushing defeat against Sacramento State University (1-1, 0-0 MW) where the Hornets won 75-65.

Both teams went back-and-forth for most of the game with SJSU trailing slightly behind by halftime but by the second half they came out guns-blazing to take the lead 58-45.

Sophomore guard Ellie Boni came out on top this game with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and snagged two steals from the Hornets.

Senior forward Cyndi Lewis was able to score 14 points, 12 rebounds and even managed her second career double-double this season. Lewis is the first Spartans player to achieve a double-double this season.

By the final quarter, CSUS managed to rally during the last seven minutes of the game to keep SJSU from taking the lead, managing to outshoot the Spartans 20-2.

It will be the home opener for the Spartans this Wednesday against the Santa Clara University Broncos. Not only is it their home opener, but it is their first home game in quite some time, due to the games last season being canceled due to COVID-19.

The Broncos are coming to the SJSU campus fresh off of back-to-back wins after defeating the Wolf Pack of Nevada University (0-2, 0-0 MW) at their home opener on Sunday afternoon.

No one will want to miss the battle between these Silicon Valley competitors this Wednesday.

This game will determine who will earn the bragging rights of the Bay Areaseason.

Catch SJSU and SCU face off at Provident Credit Union Event Center at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night.
