San Jose State women’s Swimming and diving team will head into the depths of the Mountain West Championships starting Wednesday in Las Vegas.
The team first competed Dec. 4 in an exhibition match against San Diego State and Fresno State hosted by the Bulldogs.
The exhibition was only swimming, but SJSU took advantage of the opportunity.
Freshman Ally Chisslet had a tremendous day, leading in many categories throughout the day.
The South African native dominated with 5:11.94 in the 500 freestyle, 24.51 seconds in the 50 freestyle, and 1:55.68 seconds in the 200 freestyle.
She also clocked 53.49 seconds in the 100 freestyle, but breast and fly specialist sophomore Rebecca Petoe beat her by less than a second at 52.81 seconds.
A month later on Jan. 29, the Bulldogs once again hosted the Spartans but this time as an official meet.
FSU won the meet 169-113, but there were still some positives for SJSU in the pool.
Both Petoe and junior Izzy Fraire won the breaststroke races for the Spartans.
Petoe was clocked in at a time of 1:06.76 and Izzy Fraire in second at 1:07.41. Fraire also won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.69 seconds, with Petoe winning the 100 butterfly at 59.25 seconds and the individual medley at 2:13.61 seconds.
Though not the biggest sample size of meets, the San Jose State women’s swimming and diving team is ready to take on the opposition.
