What if the Spartans played at CEFCU Stadium, with fans

Imagine if Coronavirus never existed. SJSU’s football team is 5-0 playing at CEFCU Stadium against Nevada for a chance to play in the Mountain West Championship Game.

It is a Friday night and students are shuttling over from campus to watch their undefeated football team.

It’s loud, very loud. For the first time since 2012, the Spartans are winning and they’re doing it in style.

Spartan Village has been crowded all day with people pre-gaming enjoying food and drinks. This year there have been more students and more fans revolving their days around Spartan football.

The smell of burgers and fries is in the air as you stop by the convenience stand to grab a bite to eat.

As you are walking to sit with your friends you spot Krazy George banging on his drum pumping up the crowd.

No one wants to see the Spartans lose, especially Krazy George. The crowd is alive and blue and gold seems to be shifting and wrapping around the stands.

Unlike other years everyone is screaming and chanting as one voice. The stadium is shaking. It’s powerful. You think about how intimidating the crowd must seem to Nevada as they are preparing to kick off.

Let’s assume that the game goes exactly how it went Friday night. The Spartans are down 20-7 going into the half.

The crowd is more hushed and not as energetic. By no means defeated, but there is nervousness and tension in the stadium.

Then Shamar Garrett breaks through a huge hole on the second half kickoff return.

The stands are in chaos. Everyone is on their feet screaming as Garrett races down the sideline towards the end zone.

It’s so loud you can barely hear yourself think. The crowd’s energy is even more powerful since they smell a comeback, knowing the Spartans are within one score of tying the game.

The rest of the game no one is sitting as the Spartans pick up momentum on the field.

Jay Kakiva forces a goal line fumble on defense. And Nick Starkel marches his offense 99-yards down for another score.

It is madness in the stadium. The fans are backing up the players on the field, their screams pushing them to go harder while Nevada is reeling on their heels.

Nevada gets completely shut out in the second half. And the Spartans stay undefeated.

The Spartan players run to meet their cheering fans in a glorious celebration.

Next stop is the Mountain West Championship.
