San Jose State tennis (4-1) couldn’t match up with 26th-ranked University of Washington and dropped its first match of the year, 4-1.
This was the Spartans first time in the 2019 campaign facing off against a nationally-ranked team.
SJSU doubles pairs were having a difficult time against UW as it lost all three of its matches with the same score, 6-3.
Senior Miyo Kobayashi and sophomore Laura Malsert lost the tiebreaker, giving Washington a 1-0 lead going into the singles matches.
Washington’s (9-1) Stacey Fung beat San Jose State’s sophomore Tamara Culibrk (6-0, 6-0) and extended its lead to 2-0.
Freshman Alba Pedrero Galindo was able to stand her ground with SJSU’s lone singles win against Natsuho Arakawa (6-3, 6-4). This was Galindo’s 13th singles win of the season.
San Jose State will conclude its time in Los Angeles with UC Santa Barbara at 10 a.m.
