Spartans take on Broncos in effort to pick up first conference win

By Alex Valle — Staff Writer

Looking to snap their 12 game losing streak, the Spartans (3-18, 0-9 MW) travel to Boise in hopes of earning their first win since Dec. 18.

The Broncos (10-13, 5-5 MW) have been very competitive in all of their games and it will certainly be another challenge for SJSU.

When these two teams met in January, Boise State was in control the whole game, beating the Spartans 87-64. The Broncos shot 51 percent from the field and 48 percent from three.

Their offense could not be stopped in the second half, posting an outrageous 66.7 percent from the field on 18 of 27 shooting. The Spartans were also outscored 50-30 in the second half because of a bombardment of 3’s.

The biggest challenge for the Spartans will be to limit the offense of junior guard, Justinian Jessup. At 6-foot-6 and 202 pounds, Jessup is a very efficient scorer and will put up an abundance of shots if he is feeling it.

In order to win this tough road matchup, SJSU needs to continually close out on their shooters to limit 3-pointers, aggressively defend the paint, win the rebound battle and limit turnovers.

The Spartans should also look to hold the Broncos under their season average of 33.9% from the perimeter, in an attempt to not let the game get out of their hands.

Tip off in Boise is set for 11 a.m.
