SJSU travels to Portland looking for first win

San Jose State women’s basketball (0-2) will travel to Oregon and play Portland State (1-0) on Sunday in what will be the first meeting of the season between the two organizations.

The Spartans will seek to earn their first win of the season, while the Vikings will try to make it two home victories in a row.

In the first two games, SJSU has been averaging 66 points per game. However, the team has allowed the opposition to score 73 points per game.

As the women relax more into the season, the Spartans will also be hopeful in locking down a bit more on defense as they continue to dust off any lingering cobwebs from the off season.

Two Viking players to watch out for are Courtney West and Desirae Hansen. The forward and guard combined for 50 points in PSU’s home opener against Warner Pacific.

The last time the two teams met one another was in San Jose last season. The game resulted in the Vikings defeating the Spartans with a final score of 90-78.

One player to keep an eye on will be Spartan sophomore forward Cydni Lewis, who leads her team so far this season with an average of 14 points per game.

Another player to watch out for is SJSU sophomore Danae Marquez. The point guard is averaging 11 points per game in the 25 minutes she has logged in so far this season.

The game will tip off at 2 p.m.
