Volleyball begins conference play against Cowgirls and Rams

San Jose State women’s volleyball is finally coming home to Spartan Gym and will take on the University of Wyoming for its first Mountain West conference-play match of the season.

The Spartans (5-4) and Cowgirls’ (8-4) last matchup was in early November of last season, where Wyoming swept SJSU 3-0.

Wyoming is coming to San Jose looking to break its three-match losing streak.

The Cowgirls have won the last six matches against the Spartans, but have yet to win a road match this season.

Outside hitter Emily Lewis and middle blocker Reed Copeland lead Wyoming with 100 kills each. Madi Fields’ 184 digs makes the defensive specialist another player to watch.

The Spartans will face the Cowgirls on Thursday at 6 p.m.

After taking on Wyoming, the Spartans will leave San Jose again for their second conference game of the season against Colorado State.

The Spartans upset the Rams (8-4) 3-2 in their last meeting.

Since the start of CSU and SJSU’s playing history, the Spartans have yet to secure a win in Colorado.

Rams setter Katie Oleksak is currently leading the Mountain West with 498 assists. Outside hitter Breana Runnels will be another player to look out for as she heads Colorado State with 166 kills.

The Spartans and Rams’ match starts on Saturday at 6 p.m.
