San Jose State women’s soccer’s first exhibition match of the summer ended in a 0-0 tie against Sacramento State Monday afternoon.
The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2016-2017 season where the Spartans won 1-0 in double overtime.
The Spartans and the Hornets both had a couple of shots on goal throughout the game, but both defenses overwhelmed the entire match.
In the first of the three 30-minute periods, SJSU almost landed a corner kick in the back of the net but SSU’s goalie made a jumping catch to keep the score tied at zero.
The Hornets also had many scoring chances in the first period, but failed to take advantage of two corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau made a couple of diving catches to keep the Hornets from scoring any goals.
Throughout the next two periods, the ball was on both sides of the field an even amount of time and the shots on goal were evenly matched.
The Spartans will play their final exhibition game in Moraga, Calif. to take on Saint Mary’s College on Friday before opening up the regular season Aug. 17 at home against Santa Clara.
