SJSU women’s Basketball fall against Nevada

San Jose State women’s basketball (10-20, 3-14 MW) fell 89-56 against the University of Nevada this past Saturday.

SJSU got off to a competitive start, as they were in the lead both the first quarter making it 20-17.

By the time the third quarter came around, UNLV had caught up and took the lead 44-33 as the Spartans offensive cooled down.

In their last game, the Spartans also started off with momentum against Utah State being up 43-36 by half time yet later on in the match struggled offensively as the match ended 82-75.

The Rebels started to take the lead at the end of second quarter and by the time it hit the third quarter, the Spartans were not able to catch up.

“We started off strong, we were ready to play but struggled in the third quarter to put the ball in the basket,” Spartans head coach April Phillips said.

Senior Amiah Simmons was a key player this game, scoring a total of 24 points.

Simmons continues with her streak of scoring more than 20 points each game, making this one her ninth one.

Right behind her was sophomore Rylei Waugh who scored a total of 10 points.

The Spartans have now lost a total of 5 games back to back, making it their longest losing streak.

“We’re just gonna have to continue to dig,” Phillips said.
