SJSU Gymnastics falls to Boise State

In its meet against Boise State, San Jose State could not beat the Broncos as they outscored the Spartans 196.425 to 194.300 across the meets four events. 

Sophomore Devyn Valuch got her second all-around scoring title of the season with a 38.975 while also scoring a 9.775 on the uneven bars and balance beam. 

Graduate student Jaudai Lopes scored a team-best 9.825 on the floor routine and finished the event in third place. 

“We started off really strong on bars and vault,” SJSU gymnastics coach Joanne Bowers said.

Graduate student Madison Kirsch also finished in third place, scoring a 9.775 for her vault routine. 

“We did have some stumbles on floor,” Bowers said. “I was proud of the team for coming back on beam and hitting beam well.”

For the Broncos, fifth-year senior Emily Lopez scored an overall team best of 29.600 across three events. 

She finished first in the uneven bars, first in the vault and second in the balance beam. 

This meet marked the halfway point of the season for the Spartans as they look to ramp things up going into the Mountain West Championship on March 22 at home. 

Spartans will be at home three out of the next four meets as their first home match in that stretch is against Air Force at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
