San Jose State softball (0-2) lost 3-1 against Idaho State University (3-0) Saturday afternoon.
This was the Spartans second game playing the Bengals in the 2025 NorCal Kickoff.
The SJSU offensive leaders in the game were senior utility player Aubrie Thomas, junior utility player Shay McDowell and freshmen catcher Sarah Deplitch.
Thomas went 3-3 at-bat, McDowell went 2-3 with one run batted in, Deplitch went 1-3 at-bat.
The Spartans had senior right-hand pitcher Lacie Hamm pitching in the first inning.
Hamm began with a scoreless first inning, but her success did not continue. Idaho State managed to score two runs in the second inning.
SJSU switched pitchers to sophomore utility player and pitcher Ava Conti, who fielded a player to right field.
Entering the third inning Conti stayed on pitch. Only in the third inning did both teams get an error.
Bengals senior outfielder Gracie Smith scored a home run in the fourth inning.
The Spartans answered back when a McDowell triple to right field allowing Thomas to score.
The SJSU defense stayed strong, not allowing Idaho State to score from the fifth through the seventh innings.
“I have a lot of positive things to take from it as we continue to go forward,” SJSU softball head coach Tammy Lohmann said. “Hamm came out and finished the first game really well, we got some great innings from Ava.”
