SJSU women’s golf secures first place at Landfall Tradition

San Jose State women’s golf finished in first place at the 20th Annual Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.

Junior Louisa Carlbom finished first individually at 10-under 206 and secured her first collegiate title win.

After round one, SJSU women’s golf was in the lead after shooting a 10-under 278. The Spartans led the field in birdies made with 21 and were one shot ahead of Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons came into the match ranked No. 2 in the nation.

Carlbom shot a 67 in the first round leading the field after day one at -5. All the Spartans shot even on par or better in the first round.

Fifth-year Antonia Malate and senior Kajsa Arwefjäll tied for 10th at 3-under 69.

In the second round, SJSU women’s golf maintained its first place standing and Carlbom improved to first place individually. The Spartans made another 19 birdies in round two and led the field in par-4 scoring at 15-under.

Carlbom shot a 2-under 70 on day two and led the field in birdies made with 13. Malate improved to tie for sixth place after shooting a 71 on Saturday.

In the third and final round, SJSU secured its first-place tournament title, winning the 20th Annual Landfall Tradition.

SJSU women’s golf won by six shots over No. 2 Wake Forest and seven shots over No. 18 Florida State.

It is the second tournament win of the season for the Spartans and it is well-deserved.

Carlbom continued to golf at a high level in the third round, shooting a 3-under 69 and recorded a clean card. She shot a combined 10-under 206 which was her best three-round score in her Spartan career and a new tournament record for individual low tournament score.

Arwefjäll shot a 1-under 71 in the third round and finished tied for ninth at 4-under 212. Sophomore Lucia Lopez Ortega and freshman Rebecca Gyllner tied for 20th at 1-under 215. Gyllner nearly finished the third round with a clean card, but a bogey on the 15th hole stood in her way.

Malate shot a 76 to finish with a combined even-par 216 on Sunday. Malate fell to be tie for 25th, but every Spartan finished in the top-25.  

SJSU women’s golf is having a phenomenal season and this tournament win in North Carolina marks the end of Fall play for the Spartans.

The Spartans also took first place at the USF Intercollegiate to start the season, making this their second first place this season.

SJSU women’s golf will not play until the Therese Hession Regional Challenge on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Palos Verdes Golf Course in Palos Verdes, Calif.
