The San Jose State women’s volleyball team (16-7, 10-3 MW) will be continuing on the road to revisit the Colorado State University (15-7, 11-2 MW) Rams Saturday afternoon.
This will be the second match between both universities in less than 30 days in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Spartans are coming from Laramie, Wyoming where they commanded the game and rounded up the University of Wyoming Cowgirls (13-12, 5-8 MW) in a 3-2 victory.
Senior libero Sarah Smevog, senior outside hitter Haylee Nelson, sophomore setter Mia Schafer and freshman libero Alessia Buffagni all managed to have double-digit digs in this Cowgirl round-up. Smevog led with 19 digs. Nelson, Schafer and Buffagni followed with 16, 14 and 11 digs of their own.
Nelson ended the night with 19 kills while recording her seventh double-double of the season and the 19th of her career.
This five set win is another triumph added to the Spartans six-win streak. Before this match SJSU had not won seven straight games since its 2001 season when the team won eight straight matches.
The Spartans have restored its hype and heat while continuing to bring down the Mountain West teams one-by-one.
When looking at both the Spartans and the Rams in the Mountain West, the Rams are ahead of the Spartans who rank third.
Though from a statistical point of view, SJSU has the upper hand compared to CSU.
The Spartans have 1,121 kills in comparison to the Rams’ 1,029 kills, 160 aces to the Rams’ 149 aces, 1,042 assists to the Rams’ 941 assists and 1,301 digs to the Rams’ 1,046 digs.
SJSU has shown to be a killer contender in the Mountain West. The Spartans hope to bring the hype wherever they go and show exactly what “Spartan Up” means to CSU.
