San Jose State (2-19, 1-9 MW) women’s basketball faces off against the University of New Mexico (19-3, 9-2 MW) at the Event Center on Wednesday.
SJSU will now take the court against the second-best team in the Mountain West after suffering a big loss to first-place Boise State. The key to winning this game is points off turnovers.
New Mexico is averaging 16.5 turnovers per game and being able to capitalize on defensive plays is huge.
The Spartans will need to be aggressive when guarding their opponent and deny any passes that are directed toward the paint.
The biggest task for SJSU is trying to stop senior center Jaisa Nunn. At 6-foot-3, she’s averaging 16.5 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game.
While also shooting a very efficient 57.6 percent from the field, the Spartans’ bigs have some tough work ahead of them.
Sophomore forwards Cydni Lewis and Mikaylah Wilson will need to be aggressive down low to not let any easy shots get by them, while also crashing the boards on offense and defense.
Denying any entry passes is crucial too. The less time Nunn has the ball, more chances are created for rebounds.
Tip off is set at 7 p.m. in the Event Center.
