San Jose State track and field delivered a strong performance in its final tune up before the Mountain West Championships in Clovis, Calif., highlighted by a first place finish from graduate student triple jumper Audrey McElmurry.
The Spartans showed depth across multiple events as they prepared for the postseason, with several athletes earning top finishes.
McElmurry led the way by winning the women’s triple jump with a mark of 12.51m 41-00.50.
SJSU’s sprint relay unit continued its consistency, as the men’s 4×100 relay of freshman Spencer Gray, junior Aiden Stalnecker, senior Jared Jones, and freshman David Botts placed second with a time of 40.33.
In the hurdles, freshman Hayden Bowne secured a third place finish in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09, followed closely by fellow freshman teammate Julius Baker in fourth at 14.13.
On the women’s side, graduate student Zoe Ewell posted a fourth place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 23.70, while junior Sharli’e McCuller followed in seventh at 24.33.
Sophomore Tyson Bonilla added a fourth place finish in the men’s long jump with a mark of 6.82 meters (22-04.50).
Sophomore Zion Shelton placed fifth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.62, while freshman teammate Aaron Adamos finished seventh with 1:00.89.
Junior Alexander Walker contributed with a sixth place finish in the men’s 1500 meters, crossing the line in 3:54.46.
Sophomore Nathaniel Guillory rounded out the top performances with a seventh place finish in the men’s 100 meters in 10.66.
“In two weeks we’ll be right back here in Clovis for the Mountain West Championships, we’re trying to survive and advance and make all the finals we can,” Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Charles Ryan said.
The meet served as a strong final test for the Spartans as they head into championship competition.
SJSU returns to action May 14-May 16 in Clovis, Calif. for the Mountain West Championships.
