For the first time since September, San Jose State women’s golf found itself back in the top three of a tournament. The Spartans took third in the field of 10 teams at the Silicon Valley Showcase that was ultimately dominated by Pepperdine.

There was a 35-stroke gap between first place Pepperdine and second place UCLA. The Spartans finished shooting 47-over par and had a total count of 899.

”We did a lot of learning in this tournament,” SJSU head coach Dana Dormann said. “We’re looking to build and get ready for the end of our season here.”

This was San Jose State’s final tournament-style event before the Mountain West Tournament.

Kajsa Arwefjäll continued to lead the Spartans and finished sixth overall. Arwefjäll shot under par twice out of the three rounds and finished second best on par-5 holes shooting a three under on those.

Notably, Darae Chung did not take part in this two-day event. The redshirt freshman finished in the top three in more than half of San Jose State’s tournaments.

This gave senior Louisa Carlbom another opportunity to tee off and she took advantage. Carlbom finished as the Spartans’ second-best golfer again and will certainly make selecting the final lineup for the conference tournament more difficult for Dormann.

Carlbom and Lucia Lopez Ortega both finished in the top-15 overall.

SJSU is scheduled to finish its regular season by competing in the Chevron Colorado Showdown on April 8-10 at Silverado, Calif. This gives the Spartans almost an entire month to prepare for the event.
