SJSU track and field has record-setting performances at Don Kirby Invitational

San Jose State track and field had a good first day of the Don Kirby Invitational Friday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Most of the Spartans’ highlights came on the women’s side.

Morgan Little ran a career-best 24.51 seconds in the 200-meter dash but finished 18th in the event.

Eve Divinity finished in fifth place in the 200-meter dash and set a season best in the long jump with a 5.96-meter jump.

Emilia Sjostrand finished in fourth place with a 6.39-meter jump, a season best for her.

Lina Schubert finished the high jump in a four-way tie for sixth place at 1.66 meters.

The highlight on the men’s side was Christopher Coats finishing in third place in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 21.05 seconds.

Saturday was a day the Spartans set school records.

“That’s the kind of finish that we want going to championships in two weeks right back in Albuquerque for the Mountain West, and I could not be more excited where the team is and everything that we’re doing right now,” SJSU director of track and field Charles Ryan said regarding the team’s record-setting performances on Saturday.

In the 4×400 relay, Aliyah Williams and both the men’s and women’s teams set new program records.

Williams ran the 800-meter run with a program record time of 2:10.29 seconds, finishing seventh place in the event.

Alyssa Bean, Sarah Mosteller, Savana Dutton and Williams broke the 4×400 relay record finishing in third place with a time of 3:38.26.

Sjostrand won the triple jump with a 13.96-meter jump.

Coats, Jeremiah Walker, Harry Overstreet and Jaden Smith ran the 4×400 relay on the men’s side and finished in second place with a record setting time of 3:07.57.

Demaris Waters finished in second place with a time of 7.76 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, and Michah Hairston finished in sixth place in the same event with a time of 8.12 seconds.

Other Spartans had personal record-setting performances, such as Waters’ 7.71-second run in the prelim event and Christopher Malone running the 800-meter run in 1:53.36.

Malachi Snow ran 7.79 seconds in the prelim event, a personal best.

Malone also set a personal best, running the 800-meter run in 1:53.36.

SJSU track and field’s next meet is scheduled for Feb. 22-24 at the Mountain West Indoor Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
