The San Jose State men’s water polo team (0-2) suffered its second loss of the season at the hands of Stanford Cardinal (1-0) by a score of 17-6.
The Spartans were coming off a brutal overtime loss against the host team Pacific which occurred earlier Saturday morning at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif.,
The Cardinal came out hot as they managed to find the back of the cage 40 seconds into the first period thanks to junior Beck Jurasius.
SJSU would answer back not shortly after at around the seventh minute with a good shot from the junior driver Adam Bado.
After one period of action, the Spartans went into the second period trailing the Cardinal, 4-2.
San Jose State struck first at the 7th minute to cut the lead to one courtesy of freshman Bende Pardi.
Stanford responded by netting three goals and built a sizeable lead towards the end of the second period.
SJSU looked to come out with some momentum on offense to start chipping away at the 9-5 lead but that was not the case.
The Cardinal defense held strong against any offensive opportunities that SJSU created. Stanford allowed only one goal from the Spartans in each of the final periods.
The Spartan’s defensive struggles continued as they allowed three goals in the third period and four in the fourth period.
SJSU ran into some foul trouble this game being charged a total of nine exclusions and four penalty fouls which were all converted to by the Cardinal.
The Spartans will continue to try and secure their first win of the season as they face off against Fresno Pacific University at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.
