Men’s and women’s track and field take over a third of total first place finishes

The San Jose State track and field team visited the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif. To compete in the Fresno State Invitational on Saturday.

Both the Spartan men and women came out on top today claiming over a third of the first-place spots overall.

SJSU saw its first victory of the day in the men’s high jump where freshmen Kyle Jankans took first place with a distance of 2.11 meters and Tyler Cash grabbed second with 2.01 meters.

The duo previously claimed the first and second spots uncontested in the men’s high jump at the Sacramento State Invitational on April 17.

The men did particularly well on the team relays, beating Seattle University in the 400-meter relay for first place with a time of 41.44 and beating Cal Poly in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:16.57.

Another outstanding achievement for the men was the 400-meter dash where the Spartans claimed first, second, third and fifth place.

Senior Aidan Jardon grabbed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.75.

Similarly to the previous invitational, the women showcased their skills by taking eight first place finishes.

The women grabbed their first victory in the 400-meter team relay beating out Fresno Pacific with a time of 45.32.

Senior Daryia Greene in particular stole the show with four first-place finishes herself.

Greene claimed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.09 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.20.

The other two victories were in the 400-meter and 1600-meter team relays with times of 45.32 and 3:44.74.

SJSU track and field take a two-week break in preparation for the Mountain West Championships which start 8 a.m. on Saturday at Clovis, Calif.
