San Jose State women’s water polo (1-7) fell to the University of Southern California (10-0) in a 12-5 blowout loss on Sunday.

Two of the Spartans’ junior utilities Clarissa Wandinger and Emma Hank scored season-highs with two goals apiece in their fourth straight loss. Senior driver Lili Urvari scored one goal in Sunday’s loss.

Freshman goalkeeper Elaina Davey had five saves as she played the entire match in goal for the Spartans.

The Spartans were active on the offensive end taking 30 shots, but they could not convert the scoring chances into goals.

The Trojans showed up at The Los Angeles Uytengsu Aquatics Center as they scored 57 percent of their shots going 12-21.

The Trojans speared in three goals in the first frame while they left SJSU scoreless on the defensive end, going 3-0.

The Spartans were further overrun by a barrage of USC goals in the second frame as they ended the first half trailing 6-1.

The eight minutes in the third quarter was a massacre as the Trojans slashed in four more goals. Spartans junior utility Emma Hank fired in the Spartans’ only goal of the frame off a powerplay. This gave the Trojans a lead of 11-2 entering the fourth quarter.

Down nine, the Spartans fought back valiantly in the final quarter of the game.

Wandinger scored both her goals in this quarter alone and Urvari scored her goal in the waning minutes of the game.

The opponents don’t get any easier for the Spartans as they face No. 3 UCLA (4-1) Saturday at San Jose’s SRAC Pool at 1 p.m.
