Head coach Jolene Shepardson leaves SJSU, heads back to alma mater

After six seasons in the head coach slot for San Jose State volleyball, Jolene Shepardson is parting ways with the Spartans and is returning to her alma mater, South Florida.

Shepardson led the 2018 team to a 16-11 record, with a Mountain West record of 11-7, the most since joining the conference in 2013.

Shepardson’s overall record in her six-year term with the Spartans was 72-105.
In the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Shepardson led the team to winning records of 17-12 and 16-11 respectively. This was the first time the team had put together back-to-back winning seasons in over 15 years.

After a 1-17 conference record in 2014, Shepardson turned it around. A couple of five-win seasons in league play, then a nine-win year in 2017 and a program best 11-win Mountain West season in 2018 shifted the culture.

Shepardson is returning to USF 18 years after leading the team to the NCAA tournament as well as its last conference championship victory as a player.

With a little over a month remaining until the first serve of the 2020 beach volleyball season, the search for a new San Jose State coach is underway.

It will be the first season that SJSU will play on home sand on south campus.

Updates will be shared as soon as more information is made available.
